Method
Prepare Concentrates
Dissolve dry components
In a small, clean heatproof container, combine the sucrose (11 g) and glucose/dextrose (11 g) with 40–60 ml of warm (not boiling) water to help dissolve. Stir until fully dissolved and the syrup is clear. Let cool to room temperature.
Mix active ingredients
In a separate small container, measure taurine (1000 mg), glucuronolactone (600 mg), and caffeine (80 mg). Add the powders (or liquid concentrates) to the cooled syrup and stir until fully incorporated. If using powdered ingredients, ensure they are food-grade and accurately weighed on a milligram scale.
Add acid and buffering agents
Add citric acid (0.4 g) and sodium citrate (0.3 g) to the syrup mixture and stir until dissolved. These provide the tartness and buffering typical of energy drinks.
Add flavor and optional additives
Stir in the natural/artificial flavor blend (1 ml). If using potassium sorbate (50 mg) and caramel color (0.2 ml), add them now and mix thoroughly. Taste a very small sample (a few drops) to adjust flavoring if needed — do not consume large quantities of raw concentrated mixtures.
Finish Drink
Slowly add 250 ml of chilled carbonated water to the concentrate while stirring gently with a bar spoon to integrate without losing too much fizz. The final volume should be roughly 250–300 ml depending on concentrate used; adjust to taste for sweetness and strength by adding more carbonated water or concentrate.
Give the drink a gentle stir, taste for balance. If too sweet, add a splash more carbonated water; if too tart, add a pinch more sugar dissolved in a little water; if too weak, add a few more milligrams of caffeine/taurine only within safe and legal limits.
Garnish with an optional lemon wedge on the rim. Serve immediately while cold and fizzy.
