Drink Base

Optional Garnishes & Variations

Method

Prepare Glass

1

Choose and chill glass

Select a tall highball or pint glass. If you prefer your Coke extra cold, place the glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes beforehand.

2

If using crushed ice, fill the glass about halfway with crushed ice (about 1/2 cup). Otherwise, add 1 cup of regular ice cubes to the glass so the drink stays cold without diluting too quickly.

Pouring the Coke

3

Open and pour

Open a chilled 12 fl oz bottle or can of Coca‑Cola (or your preferred cola). To preserve carbonation, pour gently down the side of the glass at a slight angle so the cola flows smoothly and foaming is minimized.

4

Stop pouring when the cola reaches about 1/2 inch (1 cm) below the rim to avoid spillage and to leave space for garnishes or a straw.

Optional Flavoring & Garnish

5

Add citrus

If using a lime or lemon wedge, squeeze the wedge over the drink to release a little juice, then drop the wedge into the glass for aroma and appearance.

6

Add vanilla or cherry

For a vanilla cola variation, stir in 1/2 teaspoon vanilla syrup gently. For a classic diner touch, drop a maraschino cherry into the glass.

7

Give the drink one gentle stir with a long spoon or straw to distribute any added syrup or citrus without flattening the carbonation.

Serve

8

Serve immediately with a straw or a stirrer. Enjoy while cold to appreciate the carbonation and flavor.

9

Note: If you used a frozen glass or crushed ice, the Coke will stay colder longer but may dilute slightly as the ice melts.
