Flatbread and Toppings
Method
Preparation and Cooking
Prepare the Dough
In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until it forms a dough.
Knead and Rise
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
Shape the Flatbread
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out to your desired thickness. Place the rolled dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Add Toppings
Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the flatbread. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top and add chopped basil. Season with black pepper and drizzle with olive oil.
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges of the flatbread are golden brown.
Serve
Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve warm.
