Brandy Milk Punch
Chill glass
Place a rocks glass or coupe in the freezer for 5–10 minutes while you assemble ingredients to keep the cocktail cold without diluting it further.
Add 6 ice cubes to a cocktail shaker (or mixing glass). The ice chills and dilutes the drink slightly for balance.
Pour 2 oz cognac (or good-quality brandy) into the shaker over the ice.
Add 4 oz whole milk and 1 oz heavy cream to the shaker. Using a mix of milk and cream gives the classic silky mouthfeel while keeping the drink light.
Measure and add 0.5 oz simple syrup (adjust to taste). If you prefer drier, reduce to 0.25 oz; for sweeter, increase to 0.75 oz.
Add 0.25 tsp vanilla extract to deepen the aromatic profile and mimic the old-fashioned bakery notes common in classic recipes.
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds until the exterior is very cold and the milk is slightly frothy. Vigorous shaking ensures proper chilling and slight aeration for a velvety texture.
Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer (or Hawthorne strainer) into the chilled rocks glass over fresh ice if you prefer it on the rocks. For a smoother, slightly creamier presentation, double-strain and serve without ice in the chilled coupe.
Garnish & Finish
Grate whole nutmeg directly over the finished cocktail (use a microplane or fine grater) to release fresh aromatics. Use to taste — typically a light dusting is perfect.
Optionally dust a small pinch (about 1/4 tsp) of ground cinnamon on top for warmth and additional aroma.
Serve immediately while cold. Suggestion: provide a small stirring spoon so the guest can stir occasionally if served on ice to keep the texture uniform.
