Method
Pork Roast Preparation
- 1
Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
- 2
In a small bowl, mix together the mild Creole seasoning, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- 3
Rub the seasoning mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it is well coated.
- 4
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a roasting pan and cover it with aluminum foil.
- 5
Cook in the preheated oven for 4-5 hours, or until the pork is tender and shreds easily with a fork.
- 6
Remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for 30 minutes before shredding.
BBQ Sauce Preparation
- 7
While the pork is cooking, prepare the BBQ sauce by combining Dr. Pepper, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper in a saucepan.
- 8
Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- 9
Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 20 minutes until it thickens slightly.
- 10
Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
Assembly
- 11
Once the pork has rested, shred it using two forks.
- 12
In a large bowl, mix the shredded pork with your desired amount of BBQ sauce until well coated.
- 13
Slice the burger buns in half and lightly toast them if desired.
- 14
Spoon the pulled pork mixture onto the bottom half of each bun.
- 15
Chop the fresh scallions and sprinkle them on top of the pulled pork.
- 16
Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
