Method

Chicken Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Chicken

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant. Season the chicken breasts with Creole seasoning and add to the skillet. Cook for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).

  2. 2

    Shred the Chicken

Remove the cooked chicken from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes. Then, chop the chicken into small pieces or shred it using two forks.

BBQ Sauce

  1. 3

    Make the BBQ Sauce

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine Dr. Pepper, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.

  2. 4

    Combine Chicken and Sauce

Add the chopped or shredded chicken to the saucepan with the BBQ sauce. Stir well to coat the chicken evenly with the sauce. Let it simmer for another 5 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 5

    Assemble the Sandwich

Toast the hamburger buns lightly if desired. Pile the BBQ chicken high on the bottom half of each bun. Top with chopped scallions and cover with the other half of the bun.

  2. 6

    Serve

Serve the sandwiches warm with extra BBQ sauce on the side if desired.
