1. Chill the bottle or can
Refrigerate the Smithwick's Irish Red until well chilled (about 2–4 hours if not already cold). Ideal serving temperature is 40–45°F (4–7°C).
2. Prepare glass
If you prefer a chilled glass, place a pint glass in the freezer for 10–15 minutes or rinse it with cold water. If you like your beer very cold, add 3–4 ice cubes to the glass (optional — traditional serving does not use ice).
3. Pour the beer
Tilt the glass at a 45° angle and begin pouring the beer gently down the side. When the glass is about two-thirds full, gradually straighten it and finish pouring down the middle to create a 1/2–1 inch (1–2 cm) creamy head. This helps release aroma and gives a pleasant mouthfeel.
4. Garnish and serve
Optionally express a lemon wedge over the beer and drop it in, or float an orange slice on the rim for a bright citrus accent. Serve immediately while cold.
