Method
Cake Preparation
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Then stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
Bake the Cakes
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool the Cakes
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
Frosting Preparation
Make the Frosting
In a large bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, beating until the mixture is smooth and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Frost the Cakes
Once the cakes have cooled completely, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
Serve
Slice the cake and serve it to enjoy your rich and moist chocolate cake.
