Ingredients for Bottled Beer
Method
Directions for Bottling Beer
Mashing the Grains
In a large pot, heat 16 cups of water to approximately 150°F (65°C). Add 6 cups of malted barley to the water and stir well. Maintain the temperature and let it steep for about 60 minutes.
Boiling the Wort
After the mashing process, remove the grain bag and bring the liquid (now called wort) to a boil. Once boiling, add 2 cups of hops. Boil for about 60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Cooling the Wort
After boiling, cool the wort quickly by placing the pot in an ice bath or using a wort chiller. The temperature should drop to about 70°F (21°C).
Fermentation
Transfer the cooled wort into a sanitized fermentation vessel. Add 1 tsp of brewing yeast and stir gently. Seal the vessel with an airlock and let it ferment in a dark, cool place for about 1-2 weeks.
Bottling the Beer
After fermentation, dissolve 3 tbs of priming sugar in a small amount of water and add it to the beer. Carefully bottle the beer in sanitized bottles, leaving some space at the top, and cap them.
Carbonation
Let the bottled beer carbonate at room temperature for 1-2 weeks. After this period, refrigerate the bottles for at least 24 hours before serving.
