Whiskey Base

Method

Whiskey Base

1

Measure and pour

Measure 2 oz of your chosen blended whiskey and pour it into a rocks glass (old-fashioned glass). If you prefer a slightly lower proof or a gentler flavor, add 0.25 oz (about 1/2 tablespoon) of room-temperature water and stir once to combine.

2

Add ice

Place one large ice cube or sphere in the glass. A single large cube chills the drink more slowly and minimizes dilution; crushed ice will dilute faster and is not recommended for this presentation.

Optional Serving & Aromatics

3

Express and garnish

Hold an orange peel with the outer skin facing down over the glass, gently squeeze to express the oils across the surface of the whiskey, then wipe the rim of the glass with the peel and drop it into the drink (or rest on the rim).

4

Optional bitters

If using bitters, add 1 dash of Angostura bitters on top of the whiskey after pouring and stir gently once with a bar spoon (about 5–8 seconds) to incorporate aroma without over-diluting.

5

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the blended whiskey's balance of grain, malt and any finishing notes from the producer.
