Method
Ranch Dressing Base
Combine creamy base
In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup mayonnaise, 1/2 cup buttermilk, and 1/4 cup sour cream until smooth and fully incorporated.
Fresh Herbs & Aromatics
Stir in the chopped herbs and aromatics: add 2 tablespoons chopped parsley, 2 tablespoons chives, 1 tablespoon dill, 1 minced garlic clove, and the optional 1 teaspoon minced shallot. Mix thoroughly so the herbs are evenly distributed.
Seasoning
Add 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar, 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt, 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar (or honey). Whisk to combine and taste; adjust salt, acid, or sugar to balance brightness and seasoning.
Optional Adjustments
If you prefer a thinner dressing, whisk in up to 1 teaspoon olive oil or more buttermilk a tablespoon at a time until you reach desired consistency. For heat, add 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce and mix.
Resting & Storage
Cover and refrigerate the dressing for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld (preferably 2 hours). Stir or shake before serving. Keeps in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
