Method
Preparing the Oatmeal
Measure the Oats
Start by measuring 1 cup of old fashioned oats or Irish steel cut oats and set aside.
Add Salt and Oats
Once the water or milk is boiling, add 1 tsp of salt followed by the oats. Stir to combine.
Cook the Oatmeal
Reduce the heat to low and let the oatmeal simmer. Old fashioned oats will take about 5 minutes, while steel cut oats will take about 20-30 minutes to reach your desired consistency.
Stir Occasionally
Stir the oatmeal occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan and ensure even cooking.
Adding Toppings
Prepare Toppings
While the oatmeal is cooking, measure out 1 cup of raisins, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, and 1 cup of walnut pieces.
Serve the Oatmeal
Once the oatmeal is cooked to your liking, remove it from heat and serve in bowls.
Add Toppings
Top each serving of oatmeal with raisins, drizzle with brown sugar, and sprinkle with walnut pieces.
Adjust to Taste
Feel free to adjust the amount of brown sugar and walnuts according to your taste preference.
