Hummus

Method

Hummus

1

Prepare chickpeas

Drain and rinse canned chickpeas under cold water. If you want an extra-smooth hummus, remove a few skins by gently rubbing chickpeas between your fingers or against a towel (optional).

2

Blend hummus

Place the drained chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, water, salt, cumin, and garlic powder into a food processor or high-speed blender. Pulse until mixture comes together, then blend continuously for 30–60 seconds until smooth. Stop and scrape down sides as needed.

3

Adjust texture and seasoning

If hummus is too thick for kids, add an additional 1–2 tablespoons of water and blend again until desired creaminess is reached. Taste and adjust salt or lemon to preference.

4

Finish and garnish

Transfer hummus to a shallow serving bowl. Smooth the top with the back of a spoon, drizzle with 1 teaspoon of olive oil (optional) and lightly sprinkle smoked paprika if using.

Cucumber Sticks & Serving

5

Wash cucumbers thoroughly. Trim both ends, then cut each cucumber in half crosswise. Stand each half on its flat end and slice lengthwise into 4–6 sticks depending on cucumber width to create child-friendly dippers.

6

If using carrot: peel the carrot, trim ends, and cut into similar-length sticks so they match the cucumber sticks for variety.

7

Arrange cucumber (and carrot) sticks around the bowl of hummus on a platter. Serve immediately. Leftover hummus can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
