Espresso Martini

Method

Espresso Martini

1

Prepare espresso

Brew fresh espresso (about 2 oz) and let it sit for 15–30 seconds to cool slightly but remain hot. Using very fresh espresso helps create a rich crema that contributes to the Martini's foam.

2

Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the drink stays cold when poured.

3

Combine ingredients

Into a cocktail shaker, add 1.5 oz vodka, 1 oz coffee liqueur, 2 oz freshly brewed espresso, and 0.25 oz simple syrup. Add enough ice to fill the shaker about two-thirds full (roughly 1 cup).

4

Dry shake (optional)

For extra foam, first add the espresso and other ingredients to the shaker without ice and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds to emulsify and build foam.

5

Wet shake

Add ice (if you didn't already) and shake the cocktail hard for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold and well-chilled. This chills the drink and creates a silky texture and foam.

6

Strain and serve

Discard ice water from the chilled glass if used. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne and fine mesh strainer to remove ice shards and achieve a smooth surface.

7

Garnish

Place three coffee beans on top of the foam as a classic garnish. Serve immediately.
