Fried Calamari

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Dredge the calamari rings in the mixture until fully coated.

  2. 2

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

  3. 3

    Fry the Calamari

Working in batches, carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Brown Butter Aioli

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and cook until it turns golden brown and has a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. In a bowl, mix the mayonnaise, minced garlic, and the browned butter. Stir until well combined.

  5. 5

    Serve

Serve the fried calamari hot with hot cherry peppers on the side and spicy marinara sauce for dipping. Enjoy!
