Meatballs

Grilled Focaccia

Method

Preparing the Meatballs

  1. 1

    Make the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 2 inches in diameter.

Cooking the Meatballs

  1. 3

    Brown the Meatballs

In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.

  2. 4

    Prepare the Tomato Fondue

In the same skillet, add more olive oil if needed. Sauté chopped onion and minced garlic until softened. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.

  3. 5

    Combine Meatballs with Fondue

Add the browned meatballs back into the skillet with the tomato fondue. Simmer for an additional 15-20 minutes until meatballs are cooked through.

Grilling the Focaccia

  1. 6

    Prepare the Focaccia

Brush the focaccia bread with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt and chopped rosemary.

  2. 7

    Grill the Focaccia

Place the focaccia on a grill or grill pan over medium heat. Grill for 3-4 minutes on each side until crispy and golden.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate the Dish

Serve the braised meatballs over the tomato fondue, topped with additional grated Parmesan cheese. Accompany with grilled focaccia on the side.
