Cocktail

Method

Prep

1

Make honey syrup

Combine equal parts honey and warm water (for this recipe: 1/2 oz honey and 1/2 oz warm water). Stir until fully dissolved. Cool briefly before using.

2

Bruise basil

Gently clap the basil leaves between your hands to release aromatic oils, then lightly muddle 4 of the leaves in the shaker base to release flavor. Reserve 2 leaves for garnish.

Build & Shake

3

Add the muddled basil to a cocktail shaker. Pour in 2 oz Space City Vodka, 0.75 oz Velvet Falernum, 1 oz passion fruit purée, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz fresh orange juice, and 0.5 oz honey syrup.

4

Fill the shaker with ice (not crushed) and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted.

Strain & Serve

5

Fill a chilled rocks or double old-fashioned glass with crushed ice. Double-strain the cocktail over the crushed ice to remove basil bits and any seeds, using a fine mesh strainer along with the shaker strainer.

6

Top with a large ice cube if desired to slow dilution. Gently slap the reserved basil leaves to activate oils and place them on top of the drink. Garnish with a lemon wheel or an orange twist on the rim.

7

Optional: For extra aromatics, express the oils from an orange peel over the drink before dropping it in.

Serving & Notes

8

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the interplay of bright passion fruit and citrus with the spiced sweetness of falernum and herbaceous basil.

9

To batch for a party: multiply ingredient quantities by number of servings, keep basil muddled fresh per batch in small batches to preserve brightness, and store chilled until serving.
