Citrus-Ginger Spirit Base

Bar & Listening Setup (non-edible items to prepare experience)

Method

Citrus-Ginger Spirit Base

1

Measure and combine

Add 2 oz bourbon, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz ginger liqueur (or 0.5 oz ginger syrup + a dash of ginger bitters), 0.25 oz maple syrup, and 2 dashes orange bitters into a cocktail shaker.

2

If using ginger syrup instead of ginger liqueur, include a dash (1–2 drops) of ginger bitters or a very small grating of fresh ginger to preserve bright ginger character.

3

Add a large handful of ice to the shaker — enough to chill quickly but leave room to shake freely.

4

Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted.

Smoky-Vanilla Finish

5

Prepare glass: If you want a subtle smoky note, pour 1 tsp peated whisky into the chilled serving glass, swirl to coat the inside, then discard or leave a thin film (this is a rinse). This step is optional; skip if you prefer no smoke.

6

Add 1 large ice sphere (or large cube) to the rinsed glass so the spirit will sit over one large piece of ice for slow dilution.

7

Add 1/8 tsp vanilla extract to the shaker (or 2–3 drops of high-quality vanilla tincture) and give the shaker one short gentle shake (3–4 seconds) to incorporate the vanilla without over-diluting the citrus brightness.

Spritz & Garnish

8

Strain the shaken cocktail over the large ice sphere in the prepared glass using a fine strainer to remove any small ice shards and pulp. Pour the 1 oz club soda gently down the side of the glass to create a light spritz and a subtle, effervescent lift.

9

Garnish: Float a thin orange wheel on the ice and spear one piece of candied ginger (or slide a fresh ginger slice) onto a cocktail pick and rest it across the glass rim or lay it on the orange wheel.

10

Optional: Express an orange peel over the top of the drink (hold peel 3–4 inches above glass and give a firm squeeze) to release oils and then rub the peel around the rim and tuck it into the drink for aroma.

Bar & Listening Setup (experience)

11

Before serving, warm and queue the turntable with your selected vinyl. Set lighting low and comfortable; seat the guest so they can both enjoy the cocktail and hear the record clearly.

12

Place the cocktail within easy reach. Offer a brief description to the guest: note the ginger-vanilla undercurrent, the optional peat smoke, and the intention of slow sipping while listening to the record.

13

Encourage the guest to sip slowly, letting the spirit, citrus, ginger, maple, and subtle smoke reveal themselves as the ice melts. Refresh soda or offer water as needed between tracks or sides.
