Prepare glass
If you prefer a salted rim, rub a lime wedge around the rim of a chilled rocks or coupe glass, then dip the rim into coarse salt to coat. Set the glass aside.
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 tablespoons (approximately 1 oz) Patrón Silver tequila, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 0.25 oz orange liqueur (optional). Add a generous handful of ice (about 1 cup) to the shaker.
Shake
Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold and the exterior is frosted. This chills and properly dilutes the cocktail.
Strain and serve
Double-strain (using the shaker’s built-in strainer and a fine mesh if available) into the prepared chilled glass over fresh ice if serving on the rocks, or neat into the coupe glass if serving up.
Garnish
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim or floated on the surface. Serve immediately.
