1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or Nick & Nora glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to chill.

2

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass add 2 oz rye whiskey, 1 oz sweet vermouth, 0.25 oz amaro, 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters.

3

Stir with ice

Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice and stir with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full rotations) until the mixture is well-chilled, slightly diluted, and viscous on the spoon.

4

Prepare glass

If you chilled your serving glass with ice water, empty and dry it. If using the freezer method, remove the glass from the freezer.

5

Strain

Using a julep or hawthorne strainer, double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass to keep out any small ice shards.

6

Garnish

Express the oils of an orange twist over the drink by holding the twist skin-side down above the surface and giving it a brisk squeeze, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it in or place it on the rim. Add one Luxardo cherry on a pick and rest it in the glass.

7

Serve

Serve immediately. The Erlton Manhattan is best enjoyed slightly colder than room temperature with moderate dilution to open the whiskey and amaro flavors.
