Beignets

Method

Preparation

1

Make the Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt. In a separate bowl, warm the milk and melt the butter. Once warm, add the egg and mix well.

2

Combine Ingredients

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.

3

Let it Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

4

Shape the Beignets

Once risen, roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into squares or rectangles, about 2 inches wide.

5

Heat Oil

In a deep pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

6

Fry Beignets

Fry the dough squares in batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

7

Dust with Powdered Sugar

While still warm, dust the beignets with powdered sugar.
