Ice Cream Base
Method
Making the Ice Cream
Prepare the Ice Cream Base
In a mixing bowl, whisk together heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until the sugar is fully dissolved.
Chill the Mixture
Cover the bowl and refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours, or until thoroughly chilled.
Prepare the Salted Caramel
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar. Cook, stirring constantly until the sugar melts and turns a golden brown. Remove from heat and carefully stir in 6 tablespoons of butter and 1/2 cup of heavy cream. Add 1 tsp of salt and mix until smooth.
Churn the Ice Cream
Pour the chilled ice cream base into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Combine with Caramel
Once the ice cream reaches a soft-serve consistency, swirl in the salted caramel sauce. Transfer the ice cream to a container and freeze until firm.
