Making the Cornbread

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking pan or cast iron skillet.

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, and melted butter until well combined.

Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in cheddar cheese and diced jalapeños.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan or skillet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

In a small bowl, combine softened unsalted butter, bourbon, smoked paprika, and salt to taste. Mix until smooth.

Spread the smoked bourbon butter on warm cornbread before serving.
