Method
Burger Preparation
Form the Patties
In a bowl, take the ground beef and season it with salt and pepper. Form the beef into 4 equal-sized patties.
Add Cheese
In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover it until the cheese melts.
Toast the Buns
While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until they are golden brown.
Onion Rings Preparation
Slice the Onion
Peel the onion and slice it into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
Prepare the Batter
In a bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the milk until the batter is smooth.
Heat the Oil
In a deep pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Fry the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then carefully place them in the hot oil. Fry in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Drain and Serve
Remove the onion rings with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot as a topping for the burgers or as a side.
