Cocktail Base
Sparkle & Finish
Method
Prep
Chill glass
Place a Collins or highball glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
Thinly slice 3 cucumber rounds. Reserve one extra slice for garnish if desired.
Lightly clap the mint leaves between your palms to release aroma; set aside two small sprigs for muddling and a sprig for garnish.
Mixing
Muddle cucumber and mint
In a cocktail shaker or mixing glass, add the 3 cucumber slices and 4 mint leaves. Gently muddle 6–8 times — press to release oils and cucumber juice but avoid pulverizing into a paste.
Combine base ingredients
Add 2 oz vodka, 0.75 oz elderflower liqueur, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup into the shaker with the muddled cucumber and mint. Fill the shaker with ice (about 3/4 full).
Shake
Shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold and well-chilled.
Assemble & Finish
Strain
Discard the ice or water used to chill the glass. Fine-strain the shaken mixture into the chilled Collins/highball glass filled with fresh ice. Use a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer if available to remove small cucumber/mint bits.
Top with sparkle
Gently top the cocktail with 2 oz club soda, pouring slowly to preserve effervescence. Give one gentle stir (1–2 rotations) to integrate.
