Method

Cocktail

1

Brew and cool espresso

Brew a single strong shot of espresso (about 1 oz). Allow it to cool for 1–2 minutes until hot but not steaming; using very hot espresso will melt too much ice and dilute the cocktail.

2

Prepare shaker

Fill a cocktail shaker about two-thirds full with ice (approx. 1 cup).

3

Combine ingredients

Pour 2 oz vodka, 1 oz coffee liqueur, 1 oz slightly cooled espresso, and 0.5 oz simple syrup into the shaker over the ice.

4

Shake vigorously

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds. Aim for a hard, fast shake so the top becomes frothy and slightly foamy from the espresso.

5

Double strain and serve

Strain the cocktail through a fine-mesh strainer (or the shaker strainer) into a chilled coupe or martini glass to remove ice shards and create a smooth surface.

Garnish

6

Float three coffee beans on top of the foam as a classic garnish. Serve immediately.
