Method

Cocktail Preparation

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while preparing the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add 1.5 oz ricardo rum, 0.5 oz vodka, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 1.0 oz coconut cream, 0.5 oz heavy cream, and 0.5 oz vanilla agave syrup.

  3. 3

    Add ice and dry shake

Add a handful of ice (about 4-6 medium cubes) to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10 seconds to chill and dilute slightly.

  4. 4

    Wet shake for texture

Strain out the ice, then add fresh ice to the shaker and shake again vigorously for 12-15 seconds. This second shake further chills and creates a silky, aerated texture from the creams.

  5. 5

    Prepare garnish

Discard ice/water from the chilled glass. Rim the edge (optional) by moistening with a lime wedge and dipping lightly into grated toasted coconut to adhere a thin coconut rim.

  6. 6

    Strain and serve

Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled glass using a Hawthorne and a fine mesh strainer to catch any small ice chips or coconut bits.

  7. 7

    Finish

Float a lime wheel on the surface and sprinkle about 1 tsp of grated toasted coconut over the top for aroma and presentation. Serve immediately.
