Strawberry Nutella Topping
Method
Strawberry Nutella Topping
- 1
Prepare strawberries
Wash the strawberries and dry them thoroughly. Hull and quarter larger berries so pieces are roughly 1/2-inch to 1-inch; leave small berries halved. Measure about 2 cups total.
- 2
Macreate strawberries
Place the cut strawberries in a small bowl. Add 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of the powdered sugar. Gently toss and let sit 5–10 minutes to draw out juices and lightly sweeten. This creates a slightly saucy, bright fruit component that pairs with Nutella.
- 3
Warm Nutella
Place 1 cup Nutella in a microwave-safe bowl. Add 1 tablespoon unsalted butter and 1 tablespoon water (the butter and water thin the spread slightly for easier drizzling). Microwave in 15-second intervals, stirring between each, for 30–45 seconds total until the Nutella is glossy and pourable but not scorching. Alternatively, warm gently in a small saucepan over very low heat, stirring constantly.
- 4
Finish the Nutella and strawberries
Transfer the macerated strawberries (including any released juices) into the bowl with the warmed Nutella. Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract and a pinch of coarse sea salt. Gently fold everything together with a spatula or spoon so some strawberry pieces stay intact while the juices and Nutella form a marbled topping. Taste and adjust: add up to another 1 tablespoon powdered sugar if you want it sweeter, or a few drops more lemon for brightness.
- 5
Serve
Spoon the warm Strawberry Nutella over pancakes, French toast, or waffles. For a finishing touch, dust the assembled plate with the remaining powdered sugar (if any) or an additional 1–2 teaspoons sifted powdered sugar for presentation. Serve immediately so the topping is warm and slightly saucy.

Storage and reheating
If you have leftovers, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in the microwave in 10–15 second bursts, stirring between, until pourable. Stir before serving to recombine.
