Selection & Portions

Method

Selection & Portions

  1. 1

    Choose your items

Select any three distinct bakery items from the menu (examples: croissant, blueberry muffin, cinnamon roll, scone, banana bread slice, chocolate chip cookie, savory hand pie). Aim for a variety of textures and flavors—one flaky/pastry, one cake/muffin, and one cookie/bread-like item is ideal.

  2. 2

    Portioning

If any chosen item is large (whole cake slice, large loaf slice, or oversized pastry), cut it into single-serving portions so each guest can try each item. Use one small serving plate per item. Place one item on each plate centered for presentation.

  3. 3

    Temperature & finishing

If an item is best served warm (croissant, scone, muffin), gently warm in a 300°F (150°C) oven for 5–8 minutes, or until slightly crisp on the outside and warm through. For items with icing or delicate glazes, warm only briefly to avoid melting. For items that are intended chilled (cheesecake slice), keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Plating & Garnish

  1. 4

Arrange the three plated items on a larger shared serving board or tray so they read as one "flight." Leave a little space between plates to avoid cross-contamination of flavors.

  2. 5

Add accompaniments: place small ramekins or dollops beside each item with appropriate accompaniments (butter for rolls/croissants, jam for scones or toast, mascarpone or honey for cake or fruit bread). Use about 1–2 tablespoons of each accompaniment per item, adjusting to item size and expected number of tasters.

  3. 6

Garnish each plate with one small fresh mint sprig, a few mixed berries, or an edible flower to enhance visual appeal. Keep garnishes food-safe and complementary to the selected items.

Service & Notes

  1. 7

Serve the Bakery Flight with small spreaders (one per accompaniment) and napkins. If providing coffee or tea, suggest pairings: light roast coffee or black tea for pastries, fruity tea for muffins/scones, and espresso for denser or chocolate-forward items.

  2. 8

Label each item subtly with a small card or write the names directly on the board so guests know what they are tasting and can note allergens (nuts, dairy, gluten).

  3. 9

Timing: assemble just before service (within 5–10 minutes of serving) so warm items remain warm and crisp items stay flaky. Total estimated time includes warming and plating.
