Method
Cocktail
Add base and bitters
Place 2 oz Malvern & Grand bourbon into a mixing glass. Add 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 2 dashes orange bitters.
Add sugar
Add 0.25 oz (approximately 1/2 tablespoon) simple syrup to the mixing glass. If you prefer a dryer Old Fashioned, reduce to 0.125 oz.
Stir and chill
Fill the mixing glass with large ice or regular ice and stir briskly for 20–30 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted (about 10–15% dilution).
Prepare glass
Place a large ice cube in an old fashioned (rocks) glass.
Strain and garnish
Strain the chilled cocktail into the prepared glass over the large ice cube. Express the oils from one piece of orange peel over the surface of the drink by holding the peel skin-side down over the glass and giving it a firm squeeze, then rub the peel on the glass rim and drop it in. Finish by dropping one Luxardo cherry into the drink or skewering it on a pick and resting it on the ice.
Optional/Service
For a more aromatic finish, flame the orange peel briefly before expressing its oils (optional and exercise caution). Serve immediately.
If using a sugar cube instead of simple syrup: place 1 sugar cube in the mixing glass, saturate with the bitters, muddle to dissolve, then continue with the recipe replacing syrup.
