Method

Preparing the Batter

1

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

2

Add Wet Ingredients

Gradually pour in the beer and water into the dry mixture, whisking until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. Let the batter rest for about 15 minutes.

Preparing the Onion Rings

3

Slice the Onions

Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.

4

Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

Frying the Onion Rings

5

Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off.

6

Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, frying a few at a time to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.

7

Drain and Serve

Remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
