Glass Preparation
Chill and rim (optional)
Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes to chill. If rimming with sugar, rub the lime wheel around the glass rim then dip the rim into a shallow plate of granulated sugar and set aside.
Cocktail Mixing
Measure and pour
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes. Add 2 oz vodka, 1 oz cranberry juice, 0.5 oz triple sec (or Cointreau), 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup if using. Add 1 dash orange bitters if desired.
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is frosty and very cold. Shaking chills and slightly dilutes the drink, balancing flavors.
Strain
Remove the chilled glass from the freezer. Using a fine strainer (or the shaker strainer), double-strain the cocktail into the prepared martini/coupe glass to catch any small ice chips or pulp.
Garnish & Serve
Garnish
Skewer 3–4 fresh cranberries on a cocktail pick or drop them directly into the drink. Add a lime wheel or a thin lime twist on the rim or floated in the glass.
Serve immediately while cold. Taste and, if desired, adjust sweetness in future batches by increasing or decreasing the simple syrup or using cranberry cocktail instead of unsweetened juice.
