Burrata & Garnish
Wild Berry Compote
Finishing Drizzle (optional)
Method
Wild Berry Compote
- 1
Prepare Ingredients
If using large strawberries, hull and quarter them. Measure the berries so you have about 2 cups total. Zest the lemon, then juice it.
- 2
Combine berries, sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest and water in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat.
- 3
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally. Use the back of a spoon to lightly crush some of the berries to release juices, leaving some whole berries for texture.
- 4
Simmer gently for 8–10 minutes, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the spoon. If it thickens too quickly, add 1 tablespoon water and stir.
- 5
Burrata & Assembly
- 6
Bring burrata to room temperature for 20–30 minutes before serving; this allows the creamy center to be soft and luscious.
- 7
- 8
Place each burrata ball on a shallow serving plate or on an individual appetizer plate. Gently score or tear the top of each burrata with a small knife or spoon to expose the creamy interior just before serving.
- 9
Spoon 2 to 3 tablespoons of the cooled wild berry compote alongside and slightly over the torn burrata, allowing some compote to pool beside the cheese for dipping.
- 10
Drizzle about 1/2 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil over each burrata, sprinkle with a pinch (about 1/2 teaspoon) of sea salt flakes and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
- 11
Arrange toasted crostini around the burrata. Tuck fresh basil leaves around the cheese for color and aroma.
- 12
Finish with a light drizzle of aged balsamic vinegar (about 1/2 tablespoon per plate) and, if desired, a light touch of honey for extra balance.
- 13
Serve immediately so crostini remain crisp and burrata is warm and creamy.
