Cocktail
Combine Ingredients
Add 2 oz WhistlePig Rye, 0.25 oz WhistlePig maple syrup, 3 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters (if using) to a chilled mixing glass.
Prepare Glass
Place one large ice cube or sphere into a chilled rocks (old fashioned) glass.
Strain
Using a Hawthorne or julep strainer, strain the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass into the rocks glass over the large ice cube.
Garnish and Express
Take an orange peel and hold it over the glass, skin side down. Give a firm twist to express the oils over the drink, then wipe the rim with the peel and drop it into the drink as garnish.
Serve immediately. Encourage sipping slowly to appreciate the barrel-aged rye and maple interplay.
Tools
Use the mixing glass and bar spoon for stirring. Use the strainer when pouring into the rocks glass. Use a peeler or knife to cut a fresh orange peel for garnish.
