Cold Brew Concentrate

To Serve (12 oz / ~355 ml)

Method

Cold Brew Concentrate

  1. 1

    Combine coffee and water

In a clean 1.2–1.5 L container or jar, add 85 g coarsely ground coffee. Pour 1,000 ml cold, filtered water over the grounds ensuring all grounds are saturated. Stir gently for 20–30 seconds to make sure there are no dry pockets.

  2. 2

    Steep

Cover the container loosely with a lid or plastic wrap. Let the coffee steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 16 to 20 hours. Steep 16 hours for a milder concentrate, up to 20 hours for a stronger, darker concentrate.

  3. 3

    Filter

After steeping, strain the concentrate through a fine mesh sieve lined with a coffee filter, double layer of cheesecloth, or Nut milk bag into a clean container. Allow it to drip without pressing to avoid extracting bitterness. This will yield roughly 900–1000 ml of concentrate.

  4. 4

    Store

Seal the container and refrigerate the cold brew concentrate. It will keep chilled for up to 10–14 days; best within the first 7 days.

To Serve (12 oz / ~355 ml)

  1. 5

    Prepare glass

Fill a 12 oz glass with about 1 cup of ice (adjust if using less/more ice).

  2. 6

    Dilute concentrate

Pour 120 ml cold brew concentrate over the ice. Add 120 ml cold water or milk if you prefer a milder, ready-to-drink beverage. Adjust ratio to taste — use more concentrate for a stronger cup, or more water/milk for a lighter cup.

  3. 7

    Sweeten

If desired, add 15 ml simple syrup (or another liquid sweetener) and stir until combined. For granulated sugar, dissolve it first in a small amount of hot water or use a syrup.

  4. 8

    Finish and serve

Taste and adjust: add more water/milk or concentrate, or additional sweetener to taste. Serve immediately over ice. Garnish with a lemon slice or a splash of flavored syrup if desired.
