Method
Infusion (Strawberry + Szechuan peppercorn)
Quick infusion
Place the halved strawberries and lightly crushed Szechuan peppercorns into a clean jar. Pour 100 ml of cognac or neutral spirit over them so the fruit is fully submerged. Seal and let sit at room temperature for 4–12 hours for a quick infusion (shorter time for lighter pepper note). For a deeper flavor, refrigerate and infuse 24–48 hours. Taste periodically to avoid over-extraction. Strain through a fine mesh and discard solids. Reserve infused spirit. Use about 15–20 ml of this infusion mixed into the cocktail in place of a flavor boost (or incorporate into the measured 2 oz VSOP by reducing ordinary cognac by the same amount).
Mouse Kingdom Strawberry & Balsamic (house syrup)
Combine strawberry purée, sugar, water, and aged balsamic in a small saucepan. Warm gently over low heat, stirring, until sugar dissolves and mixture becomes glossy (about 3–5 minutes). Do not boil — you only want to dissolve sugar and marry flavors. Remove from heat, cool, then strain through a fine mesh to remove seeds. Refrigerate. Yields a balanced sweet-tart strawberry-balsamic syrup. Use 0.5 oz (about 15 ml) in the cocktail unless you prefer more balsamic presence.
Blackberry Shrub
In a small bowl or jar, muddle the blackberries with sugar until juices release. Add apple cider vinegar and stir to combine. Let sit 30 minutes at room temperature to macerate, then press through a fine mesh strainer to collect the shrub liquid. Keep refrigerated. Use 0.5 oz (about 15 ml) in the cocktail.
Cocktail Assembly
Chill a coupe or rocks glass (or prepare a large ice cube for a rocks presentation). If using infused cognac as part of the base, measure total spirits so the cocktail totals approximately 2.5 oz spirit (for example: 1.75 oz VSOP + 0.25 oz infused cognac + 0.5 oz Grand Marnier, or simply add 0.25 oz infusion to the 2 oz and reduce VSOP accordingly).
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add: 2 oz total cognac (including the infusion portion as described), 0.5 oz Grand Marnier, 0.5 oz Mouse Kingdom Strawberry & Balsamic syrup (or 0.25–0.5 oz to taste), 0.5 oz blackberry shrub, and 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice.
Shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until well chilled and diluted. Double strain into the chilled coupe or over a large clear ice cube in a rocks glass.
Garnish with a lemon twist and a micro basil or mint leaf. Lightly tap a pinch (about 1/8–1/4 tsp) of cracked Szechuan peppercorns on top for a mild electric tingle — keep it light so it accents but does not overpower.
Electric Syringe Accent
Load a 1 ml–5 ml culinary syringe with 10 ml high-proof neutral spirit mixed with 5 ml concentrated strawberry reduction or grenadine (or keep them separate for two-stage delivery). Immediately before serving, inject a small shot (0.25–0.5 ml) into the top of the cocktail or squirt alongside the sip. Alternatively present the syringe on the side for diner to inject. If you want a visual pop, briefly torch a droplet on the surface of the alcohol cautiously (optional and only if trained and safe).
