Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Place a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water to chill while you build the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass or shaker filled halfway with ice, add 1.5 oz Fords Gin, 1 oz Carpano Antica Formula, and 1 oz Campari.

  3. 3

    Stir

Stir the mixture gently with a bar spoon for 25–30 seconds (about 20–30 full revolutions) until well chilled and slightly diluted — the glass should feel very cold and the liquid should be clear and silky.

  4. 4

    Strain

Discard the ice or water from your chilled serving glass. Double-strain (optional) the cocktail from the mixing glass into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora using a Hawthorne strainer (and a fine mesh strainer if you prefer extra clarity).

  5. 5

    Garnish

Express the oils of an orange peel over the surface of the drink by holding the peel skin-side down about 3–4 inches above the glass and giving it a firm twist, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the cocktail as garnish.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve immediately. The drink is ready to enjoy as a balanced, bitter-forward stirred cocktail.
