Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Measure and combine

Add 2 oz bourbon, 1 oz Campari, and 1 oz Bigallet China-China into a mixing glass or a large mixing cup.

  2. 2

    Add ice

Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes until nearly full. Using large cubes chills and dilutes more slowly for a balanced cocktail.

  3. 3

    Stir

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full spoon turns) until the outside of the glass is chilled and the liquid is slightly diluted and silky.

  4. 4

    Strain

Place a strainer over the mixing glass and strain the cocktail into a chilled rocks glass over one large ice cube or into a chilled coupe if you prefer it neat.

  5. 5

    Garnish

Express the oils of an orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down above the glass and giving it a firm twist. Rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink. Optionally, add a Luxardo or brandied cherry on a pick.

  6. 6

Serve immediately and enjoy. The Boulevardier is best sipped slowly to appreciate the balance of sweet bourbon, bitter Campari, and the complex quinine and spice notes from Bigallet China-China.
