1

Prepare glass

If you prefer a smoked-salty accent, pour the smoked sea salt onto a small plate. Rub the rim of a rocks glass or coupe lightly with a lime wedge, then dip the rim into the smoked sea salt to coat about half the rim. Chill the glass by filling with ice and set aside while you build the cocktail.

2

Build and shake

In a cocktail shaker add 2 oz reposado tequila, 0.5 oz joven mezcal, 0.5 oz Yellow Chartreuse, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz agave syrup, and 2 dashes bitters. Fill the shaker with ice (enough to nearly fill), secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is well-chilled and you feel the outside frost.

3

Strain

Discard the ice from your chilled glass. Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer (or just a fine strainer) to remove small ice shards and any pulp for a clean texture.

4

Garnish and finish

Express the oils from the orange peel by holding it over the drink, skin-side down, and giving it a sharp twist so the oils spray over the surface. Rub the peel lightly around the rim (avoiding the salted area if used), then drop the peel onto the drink as garnish. Serve immediately.
