Instructions

  1. 1

    Caramelize the Onions

In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and cook slowly for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.

  2. 2

    Cook the Burgers

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of butter. Form the Angus beef into two patties, season with salt and pepper, and cook on medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired doneness.

  3. 3

    Assemble the Melt

Once the burgers are cooked, place a slice of Gruyere cheese on each patty and cover the skillet to melt the cheese for about 1-2 minutes.

  4. 4

    Toast the Rye Bread

While the cheese is melting, toast the rye bread slices in a separate skillet or toaster until golden brown.

  5. 5

    Build the Burger

Spread Thousand Island dressing on each slice of toasted rye bread. Place one cheesy burger patty on one slice, top with caramelized onions, and add the second cheesy patty on top. Finish with another slice of rye bread and press down gently.

  6. 6

    Serve

Cut the burger in half if desired and serve immediately. Enjoy your Beerhall Melt!
