Burger Patties & Seasoning
Bacon & Toppings
Garlic Aioli
Buns & Finish
Method
Garlic Aioli
Make aioli
Mince or press the garlic clove finely. In a small bowl combine mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Whisk until smooth and refrigerate while assembling the rest (at least 10 minutes for flavors to meld).
Bacon & Prep
Prep produce
Slice tomato into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Wash and pat lettuce leaves dry. Halve the avocado, remove the pit, scoop out flesh and slice into 1/4-inch slices or mash lightly with a fork if you prefer. Keep prepared items refrigerated until assembly.
Patties & Cooking
Form patties
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 oz each for 4 small burgers, or two portions for larger 1/2-lb patties if preferred). Gently form into patties about 3/4-inch thick and slightly wider than the bun. Make a shallow dimple in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent excessive puffing during cooking. Season both sides with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Optionally brush one side lightly with Worcestershire sauce.
Cook patties
Heat a heavy skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon oil. When hot and shimmering, add patties (fit without crowding). Cook for 3–4 minutes on the first side without pressing. Flip and cook another 2–3 minutes for medium; in the last minute of cooking, lay a slice of American cheese over each patty and cover the pan briefly (30–60 seconds) to melt the cheese. Adjust times for desired doneness (longer for medium-well/well done). Transfer patties to a plate and tent loosely with foil to rest for 2–3 minutes.
Buns & Assembly
Assemble burgers
Spread a generous tablespoon of garlic aioli on both the bottom and top bun halves. On the bottom bun place a lettuce leaf, then a cheese-topped burger patty, 1–2 tomato slices, crispy bacon (2 slices per burger), and avocado slices (about 1/4 of the avocado per burger) or a spoonful of mashed avocado. Top with the bun crown and serve immediately.
