Method

Prepare the Meat Sauce

  1. 1

    Cook the Meat

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.

  2. 2

    Add Vegetables

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent.

  3. 3

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Prepare the Béchamel Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.

  2. 5

    Make the Roux

Add the flour to the melted butter and whisk for about 2 minutes until it forms a paste.

  3. 6

    Add Milk

Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 7

    Season

Add a pinch of nutmeg and salt to taste, then remove from heat.

Assemble the Lasagna

  1. 8

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. 9

    Layer the Ingredients

In a baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce, followed by a layer of béchamel sauce, and then a layer of lasagna noodles. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with béchamel sauce on top.

  3. 10

    Add Cheese

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated parmesan cheese evenly over the top layer.

  4. 11

    Bake

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Serve

  1. 12

    Cool and Slice

Let the lasagna sit for about 10 minutes before slicing. Serve hot.
