Thunder Mace Cocktail

Garnish & Flame (optional)

Method

Thunder Mace Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare shaker

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with crushed ice (about 1 cup). This keeps the drink cold and dilutes correctly.

  2. 2

    Combine spirits and aromatics

Add light rum, dark rum, overproof rum, blue curaçao, fresh lime juice, ginger liqueur (or syrup), freshly grated ginger, Angostura bitters, and activated charcoal (if using) into the shaker. The charcoal is optional and used sparingly to create a stormy dark tone evocative of thunder; stir a little if charcoal clumps.

  3. 3

    Add fruit and shake

Pour in the pineapple juice. Cap the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and well chilled.

  4. 4

    Build in glasses

Divide remaining crushed ice between two highball or tiki-style glasses. Strain the shaken mixture evenly over the ice (use a fine mesh strainer if using charcoal to catch clumps).

  5. 5

    Top and finish

Top each glass with 2 oz (1/4 cup) club soda or ginger beer to taste. Gently stir once to integrate the soda without flattening the fizz. Taste and adjust: add a dash more lime if too sweet, or a few drops more bitters for complexity.

Garnish & Flame (optional)

  1. 6

    Garnish

Thread a candied ginger slice and a lime wheel on a cocktail pick; rest across the glass rim and tuck a mint sprig into the ice for aroma. The garnish echoes Leigong’s fiery, sharp character—ginger for thunderous spice, lime for bright strike.

  2. 7

    Flame accent (CAUTION)

If you want a dramatic flaming accent: pour 1/4 tsp (total for both glasses) of overproof rum into a small heatproof spoon, light carefully with a long lighter, and float briefly above the surface of the drink to warm aromatics, then extinguish before serving. Do not pour flaming liquid into the glass; use only as a brief spectacle. Skip this step if you’re unsure or serving near children.
