Place a lowball/old-fashioned glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice and water while preparing to slightly cool the glass without diluting the whisky excessively.

Pre-chill glass (optional)

Remove the chilled glass from the freezer or discard the ice/water if used to chill. Dry the glass if necessary.

Place a single large ice sphere or large crystal-clear cube into the glass. Large ice melts more slowly and minimizes dilution, preserving the whisky's flavors.

Measure 2 oz (approximately 60 ml) Johnnie Walker Blue Label and pour it gently over the ice.

Hold the orange peel with the outer (zest) side facing down about 3–4 inches above the whisky. Firmly and quickly express the peel by giving it a sharp squeeze to release the oils, moving the peel in an arc so oils spray across the surface of the whisky.

Rub the expressed, slightly twisted peel around the rim of the glass once, then drop the peel into the drink as a subtle aromatic garnish.

Gently swirl the glass once or twice to integrate the aromatic oils and allow the whisky to open.

Taste the whisky neat first to appreciate the caramel, dark chocolate and smoke profile. If desired, add a small splash (about 1/2 teaspoon) of cold water to open the aromas and soften alcohol heat—add incrementally and taste after each drop.

Serve with a single piece of high-quality dark chocolate or a small caramel tasting nib on the side to accentuate the chocolate and caramel notes. Eat a bite between sips to enhance the tasting experience.
