Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

If desired, place the rocks glass in the freezer or fill with ice and water to chill while you assemble the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

Add gin, Campari, sweet vermouth, cherry blossom liqueur, cherry cordial (or syrup), and 2 dashes of orange bitters into a mixing glass.

  3. 3

    Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with large, cold ice. Stir gently but thoroughly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full strokes) until the mixture is well-chilled and slightly diluted — this cools and integrates the flavors while smoothing the Campari's edge.

  4. 4

    Prepare serving glass

Discard ice/water from the chilled rocks glass if you used it. Place a single large ice cube into the rocks glass.

  5. 5

    Strain

Double-strain or fine-strain the mixed cocktail into the rocks glass over the large ice cube, using a hawthorne or julep strainer (and a fine strainer if available) to catch any small shards.

Garnish & Finish

  1. 6

    Express orange oils

Take the orange peel and hold it over the prepared cocktail, skin-side down. Give it a firm twist to express the oils over the drink, then rub the peel around the glass rim for aroma. Drop the peel into the drink or discard per preference.

  2. 7

    Add cherry and optional flower

Gently place the pickled sakura cherry (or Maraschino cherry) onto the ice cube. If using an edible flower, float it beside the cherry for visual effect. Ensure the garnish sits attractively and does not overwhelm the cocktail's aroma.

  3. 8

    Serve

Serve immediately with a short presentation note: 'Cherry Blossom Negroni — inspired by our blossom installations.' The cocktail is best enjoyed within a few minutes while chilled and aromatic.

Tools

  1. 9

Use the bar spoon for stirring, the strainer when pouring, and the peeler or channel knife to prepare the orange peel. Clean tools after use.
