Method
Cocktail
Prepare glass
Chill a martini or coupe glass by filling with ice water while you prepare the cocktail (or place in the freezer for 5–10 minutes).
Muddle lychee (optional)
If you want extra lychee flavor and a slightly textured martini: place 1 canned/jarred lychee in a cocktail shaker and gently muddle once or twice to release juices. Do not pulverize.
Build and shake
Add New Amsterdam Vodka (2 oz), lychee liqueur or 0.5 oz lychee syrup, fresh lime juice (0.5 oz), and simple syrup (0.25 oz, optional) into the shaker with the muddled lychee (if using). Fill the shaker with ice (about 6 cubes). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until well chilled and the shaker is frosty.
Strain
Dump the ice water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled martini or coupe glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove any lychee solids and small ice shards for a smooth finish.
Garnish
Thread the peeled whole lychee (or maraschino cherry) onto a cocktail pick and place it across the rim or drop it into the center of the cocktail. Express a lime twist over the surface to release oils, then drop the twist into the drink or rest it on the rim.
