Method
Prep
Chill a large pitcher (2–3 quart) or beverage dispenser in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes if possible. Gather all spirits, cola, citrus, and ice so assembly is quick.
If making simple syrup fresh: combine equal parts granulated sugar and water (by volume) in a small saucepan, heat gently while stirring until sugar dissolves, cool to room temperature before using. (This recipe uses 3 oz finished syrup.)
Mixing the Cocktail
Combine spirits and sour
In the chilled pitcher combine vodka (4 oz), white rum (4 oz), gin (4 oz), tequila (4 oz) and triple sec (3 oz). Add fresh lemon juice (6 oz) and simple syrup (3 oz). Stir vigorously for about 20–30 seconds to integrate and slightly chill the mixture.
Add ice
Fill the pitcher roughly two-thirds full with ice (about 4–5 cups) so the mixture is immediately cooled and slightly diluted. Reserve additional ice for serving glasses if desired.
Top with cola
Slowly pour chilled cola (about 24 oz) over the back of a spoon or directly into the pitcher to top the mixture. Pouring slowly preserves a light layered look if desired. Stir gently once or twice to combine — do not over-stir; you want the cola to retain some effervescence.
Taste and adjust: if the mixture tastes too sharp, add up to 1 oz more simple syrup; if too sweet, add 0.5–1 oz more lemon juice. If using bitters, add 3–6 dashes and stir once.
Serving
Prepare 4 tall highball or Collins glasses by filling each with 1/2 cup (about 2–3 large handfuls) of fresh ice. This recipe serves 4; for individual servings, each glass will get roughly 1/4 of the pitcher contents.
Divide the cocktail evenly among the four prepared glasses (about 8–8.5 oz per glass). Top each glass with extra cola or adjust to taste if you want it lighter — add about 1–2 oz additional cola per glass for a milder drink.
Serve immediately with straws or long spoons. Remind guests this is a strong, supersized Long Island — sip responsibly.
