Whisky & Glassware

Method

Prepare Glass

1

Chill or room temperature

Decide if you want the whisky slightly chilled or at room temperature. For a lightly chilled pour, place the glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or use a large chilled whisky stone/ice cube. If you prefer room temperature, skip chilling.

2

If using ice, place one large ice cube or 2–3 whisky stones in the glass. The use of a single large cube or stones minimizes dilution while chilling the spirit.

Pouring & Tasting

3

Measure and pour

Measure 2 oz of The Glenlivet 12 Year and pour it gently into the prepared glass over the whisky stone or ice cube (or straight into the glass if no chilling desired).

4

First nosing

Hold the glass by the base or stem, bring it to your nose, and take a short, gentle sniff from a few inches away to catch the top aromatics (citrus, floral notes).

5

Second nosing

Lower the glass slightly and take a deeper inhale to pick up mid and base notes like vanilla, honey, and light oak.

6

Add water (optional)

If desired, add a small splash (about 1 tsp) of fresh water to the whisky to open up aromas and flavors. Stir gently once with the spoon to incorporate. Taste after adding water to note the difference.

7

Tasting

Take a small sip, let it coat your tongue, and breathe gently through your nose to evaluate flavors: sweetness, fruit, vanilla, oak, and gentle spice. Take a second, slightly larger sip to judge finish and balance.

Garnish & Service

8

If using a lemon twist, use the peeler to cut a thin strip of lemon peel, twist it over the glass to express oils, and rest it on the rim or float it in the whisky. This is purely optional and should be light so as not to overpower the whisky.

9

Provide the tasting note card alongside the glass (if using), noting highlights such as 'aromas of citrus and honey, flavors of vanilla and orchard fruits, smooth oak finish.' Serve immediately.
