Tea Base

Optional Additions

Method

Brew Tea

1

Boil water

Pour 2 cups of cold fresh water into a teapot or small saucepan. Bring to a rolling boil over medium-high heat (about 3–5 minutes depending on stove).

2

Add tea

Once the water reaches a boil, remove from heat. Add 1 teaspoon of loose black tea (or 1 tea bag) to the hot water.

3

Steep

Cover and let the tea steep for 3–5 minutes depending on desired strength: 3 minutes for light, 4 minutes for medium, 5 minutes for strong. Avoid over-steeping to prevent bitterness.

4

Strain

After steeping, pour the tea through a strainer into a cup to remove loose leaves or remove the tea bag. Gently press the tea bag or leaves once against the strainer if you want a slightly stronger cup.

Finish & Serve

5

Taste the brewed tea and choose optional additions: add 1 teaspoon sugar or 1 teaspoon honey and stir to dissolve; or add 1/4 cup milk for a creamy tea; or add 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice (do not add lemon with milk). Add fresh mint leaves if desired and give a quick stir.

6

Serve immediately while hot. Adjust sweetness or milk to taste and enjoy.
