Aromatics & Finish
Method
Base Soda
Chill and prepare carbonated water
Ensure the carbonated water is well chilled. Pour 2 cups of chilled carbonated water into a measuring pitcher or the serving glass, leaving room for ice and additions (about 8–10 oz glass).
Add sweetness
Add 2 tablespoons of simple syrup to the chilled carbonated water. If using a pre-sweetened soda base or syrup concentrate, reduce to 1 tablespoon and taste.
Flavor & Citrus
Add 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice and 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice to the soda mixture. These brighten the flavor and balance sweetness.
Add 1 teaspoon of your chosen natural flavor extract or cordial (for example: 1 tsp cola extract, ginger syrup, or fruit concentrate). Stir gently once or twice with a long spoon to combine — avoid vigorous stirring to preserve carbonation.
Aromatics & Finish
If using, add 2 dashes of bitters to deepen the aroma and complexity. This is optional but recommended if you like a more layered soft drink.
Fill the serving glass with about 1 cup of ice cubes (or to preference). Pour the flavored soda mixture over the ice to chill instantly. Gently stir once just to incorporate and not to flatten the carbonation.
Garnish with a citrus wheel (lemon or lime) or a sprig of mint. Serve immediately while fizzy.
